Turns out that I'm mandated to use such tools as Mercurial and Python... however not all is lost! The Python Tools for Visual Studio brings IntelliSense, accurate breakpointing, great colouring and other such 21st Century powers to Python. Add in VisualHG and the only thing you'll be left wondering is why on earth you stuck with Emacs for so long. The only unusual quirk I've found so far is Visual Studio's IntelliSense DB doesn't always deal with sub packages correctly in the site-packages folder. Simply sticking a blank __init__.py in the parent package does the trick and it picks it up in real-time!
